Essay on Gautam Buddha
Gautama Buddha spread the message of peace around the world. Gautam Buddha is the light of Asia as he was born here. He was born in Lumbini of the then Kapilvastu state of Nepal. He was born in Lumbini more than 2500 years ago to king Suddhodan and queen Mayadevi.
First, his name was Siddhartha. Buddhism is an Asian religion based on the teaching of Siddhartha Gautama or Buddha. Buddha is the person on whose teachings the Buddhist religion is based. Gautam Buddha is one of the luminaries of Nepal, He is the founder and god of Buddhism.
He is the messenger of world peace. Siddhartha was a prince. But his mother Mayadevi died a few days after he was born. Suddhodan brought up Siddhartha with royal comfort. He was lovingly cared for by his stepmother. As morning shows the day, Siddhartha was a different child from his early days. He was a very kind-hearted child. He could not tolerate seeing anybody in trouble.
As a child, he was very clever and wise. His manners were equally good. He was very polite, honest, and thoughtful too. He has no anger, temptation, greed, anxiety, etc. he was a very kind and helpful child. He was interested to help and do something good for others.
He was a serious and curious child. Siddhartha learnt the art of welfare as well as various other subjects such as politics. He was an heir of the state. His father was very happy with his wisdom but worried about his ignorance to be a king. But Siddhartha kept himself away from day-to-day work.
Siddhartha married to Yasodhara Devi. They had a child named Rahul. The king his Suddhodhan wanted to make Siddhartha the king soon and his grandson the prince. But Siddhartha took a different way. He started to study deeply and think about the world peace and prosperity.
When he was moving around in the city, he saw an old man in the street, one day he also saw a dead man and a diseased man. This made him very sad and pathetic. He started to think about the ways to be free from such pain, suffering and sorrows.
The sight of old age, diseases and death caused great concern in Siddhartha. So, he decided himself renounce worldly things. Siddhartha started to think about freeing humans from such worldly sorrows. And he started to seek ways to make all human beings happy.
One night he left his royal life and get out alone from his palace in search of truth and remedies for worldly sufferings and sorrows. Siddhartha continued his efforts to searching remedies for world pain. Nothing in the world could divert him from his determined desire to relieve the pain and distress of the living beings. He abandoned his home and departed in search of enlightenment.
As he left home, he went far and practised penance. But he was not satisfied with hard mediation also. One day he sat under a Bunyan tree with a firm resolve to attain supreme knowledge. It was the full moon day in the month of Baishakh that he attained supreme knowledge.
Then he became Buddha or the enlightened one. After he became Buddha, he started preaching lessons to all people. Buddha preached these and other lessons for about forty-five years at different places until he died at the age of 80 in Kushinagar on the full moon day of Baishakh.
It was a wonderful coincidence that Buddha was born, enlightened and died on the same day or full moon day of Baishakh. So many people who follow Buddhism and respect Buddha celebrate this day with great respect and honour.
There are many great personalities in the world. some of them are humans and some of them are respected as gods or goddesses for their noble deeds. Gautam Buddha is such a great person who is the messenger of world peace. He is our pride; many people in Nepal and the world respect him and follow his religion Buddhism.
